The city took down their monster LEDs
Great news on the city’s response to my grass roots investigation and expose.
👉After confronting them with actual brightness measurements, the city where I live in Tokyo has actually changed 9 of the bulb units from 5,000 Kelvin to 2,700 Kelvins which have a lower brightness (luminous flux), and a redder more natural color spectrum.
They say they will keep changing the bulbs with each budget period until they are all changed in the bike path. They sent me this illustration of the specs they changed.
● The 5,000k Kelvin color was changed to 2,700k (you can see the color in the image as white on the left and orange-cream on the right).
● The luminous flux went from 4,000 lumens to 3,600 lumens.
Luminous flux is a fundamental concept in optics representing the total amount of visible light emitted from a source in all directions. It measures the total quantity of light energy emitted per unit time, illuminating the surroundings and affecting the observer’s brightness perception.
Here is the “BEFORE” change photo showing the 5,000k lights a few months ago.
Here is the “AFTER” change photo showing two lights changed to 2,700k in the forefront last month.
The “BEFORE” measurement @41.8 lumens (foot-candles). Remember, up to 2 lumens is the recommended brightness for parks!
The “AFTER” measurement at the same light @13.88 lumens (foot-candles).
👉Note, while actual measurement and confrontation with the Authorities enabled a change, the lights are still LEDs and have a flicker to them which is not great for the eyes and brain.
👉On the positive side the light power is lower, and the color of 2,700 Kelvins is much closer to the healthy red end of the spectrum than the 5,000 Kelvin bulbs. The blue lights seem to have a greater risk of retinal damage.
👉You can make a difference if you clamor hard enough, that’s why they propagandize you, to keep you from knowing there is something to clamor about.
👉The Japanese are very considerate as everyone knows, especially if you threaten to stand outside their office with placards along with your legal team (embarrassment is their weak spot).
👉Shit, now I have to buy the city parks office some expensive Japanese confectionery...
Had I done this investigation in the U.S. I’m sure I’d be an ICE victim by now.

Now that is a result! Congrats!
Certainly going the right direction, little proton! Thank You for the work You do!
