Strange, I have never heard of a konbini not accepting coins, but there is an automated self check out. they may be pushing now. This is all part of the getting rid of cash program.
A friend told me that a lot of elderly Japanese are dying with no one to leave their property to so the state sells it off really cheapo to whoever wants it.
My friend's nephew with a Japanese wife apparently got a wonderful beach front property for $10k US$
I'm not believing just the one story, but since you mentioned Japan.
I'm not an expert on where those places are but they are not everywhere, and may likely be in no-man's land otherwise they'd get taken and flipped for normal price. If you look on line you will know more than I do. Go for it!
There is abandoned land, some I heard you can squat on and farm even. But they're not in places I can really go and you need a car and, be near some semi-village at least and fix thing ups and who knows how much money to put into them, how to legally get them, what kind of visa you need to do what (though to buy a condo I dont think you need a visa), and a local translator, etc etc! I just focus on my small proton little area but very interested to hear info you get.
Dragged thru the mud? That doesn't sound nice. Maybe you need a break from the info overload, the silly people (like me), and the occasional nasty person (some of which are Intel agents). The less you comment the less chance to meet the nasties. We're behind you take it easy. 💕
If you really want to, you can still take Japanese lessons on line, and even give English lessons on line and make a little $. Your J teacher can even show you places thru their phone. Don't give up!
I'm already fluent in sushi... Hamachi, anyOne? LOL! I am more interested in living there than just learning more about what They do there (studied for decades off and on). I need to get out of where I am! Haha!
Job (need a skill and usually be in the working age range), Marriage (need a partner), Open a business (need 40k in the bank and a business plan), student at Japanese language school (need ¥), Student at culture school like tea ceremony (need some ¥ but much less than language school), come for 3 month tourist visas, leave to Guam or Korea for a day come back and restart, magic carpet and just fly in.

Yes to Japan.

Oh, well, it's a good story.
And plays into this whole genocide business.

If I had two nickles to rub together, I would be in Japan in a heartbeat! Sadly, I have nothing and very little of that!

There's a few ways, none require Japanese:
Job (need a skill and usually be in the working age range), Marriage (need a partner), Open a business (need 40k in the bank and a business plan), student at Japanese language school (need ¥), Student at culture school like tea ceremony (need some ¥ but much less than language school), come for 3 month tourist visas, leave to Guam or Korea for a day come back and restart, magic carpet and just fly in.
When I get more that 76¢, I will look into that. LOL! Seriously, I have little more to spend on that than 76¢.
